Kim Paul Nguyen, a Vietnamese from Brisbane, Australia, is making a bicycle trip around the world to call for environmental protection and green house gas reduction to save the Earth from global warming.

Kim began his trip on August 10, 2008 with a trans-Asian tour. He is now in the highlands of Central Europe and hopes to reach the Danish capital of Copenhagen – the venue for the 15th United Nations Conference on Climate Change in December, 2009.

Kim wants to send the message “let’s take action before the Earth is destroyed”, urging world leaders to facilitate negotiations for the signing of a legally-binding agreement to save the Earth.

From northeastern Australia, Kim cycled through several deserts, moving to East Timor, Malaysia and Thailand before crossing Central Asian deserts into Russia and heading down through Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Bulgaria and up to the highlands of Central Europe.

Kim has cycled most of the way, and has only traveled by plane across the sea. Only once he had an accident while riding through difficult terrain. Everywhere he receives a warm welcome and local people often join him for a long tour. Kim records his feelings and experiences on his personal blog for viewers to keep track of his bicycle trip.

Kim was born in 1981 in Canberra. His father is Vietnamese and his mother is Australian. After graduating from university, Kim worked in the field of child protection for eight years and later as a consultant in environmental protection for two years. His round-the-world bicycle trip, named “Ride Planet Earth”, was conceived during his working period.

His main goal is to encourage people to live environmentally friendly lives and reduce vehicle emissions. Recent research results show that 35 percent of the world’s total volume of CO2 is produced by vehicles.

During his tour, Kim has actively engaged in protecting environment and increasing public awareness of the need for environmental protection. He has proposed to his supporters that for every 1,000km he cycles from Australia to Denmark, each supporter will choose an environmentally-friendly means of transport to travel for a distance of 100km instead of using their own cars.

Kim Paul Nguyen’s tireless efforts have been given due credit by media agencies and environmental protection organisations such as Green Peace and the Fund for Wild Nature.
