Vietnamese in Taiwan welcome Lunar New Year
Saturday, 11:54, 18/01/2014
(VOV) -Taiwan’s Vietnamese community held a January 17 get-together in capital Taipei to celebrate the coming Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival.
Most of the 220,000 Vietnamese people currently working, studying, and residing in Taipei are unable to return to Vietnam for the year’s biggest traditional celebration.
The compensatory festivities included preparing Tet standards such as Banh Chung (square sticky rice and green bean savoury cakes), making Tet decorations from peach blossoms and kumquat trees, and sharing fond Tet memories of family reunions in the homeland.
The get-together’s cozy, welcoming atmosphere is a source of solidarity for members of the overseas Vietnamese community in Taiwan.
