Vietnamese in Australia gather to celebrateTet
(VOV) -A traditional get-together was held at the Vietnam Embassy in Australia on January 19 in the lead up to the up coming Lunar New Year of Horse (Tet).
Vietnam Ambassador to Australia Hoang Vinh Thanh along with representative from the Vietnamese community and international friends attended the event.
Speaking at the event, Vietnam Ambassador Vinh Thanh spoke glowingly about Vietnam’s major accomplishments in 2013 and discussed its goals for the upcoming New Year.
He voiced his hope that the overseas Vietnamese in Australia will continue to contribute to the development of the country.
He also underscored the importance of maintaining friendly cooperative relations between Vietnam and Australia and noted that the two countries are planning numerous activities in celebration of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
He said that the Australian Government provided an estimated AUD159.1 million in official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam in 2013-2014 and continued to offer scholarships to hundreds of Vietnamese students.
At the meeting, participants had an opportunity to enjoy Vietnamese traditional cuisine including Chung cake and spring rolls.
