The 2011 Vietnamese Family Festival took place at the Vietnam Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts in Hanoi on June 25 to honour the traditional values of Vietnamese families.

Under the theme “Practical Actions to Build Happy and Sustainable Families,” this year’s event created a forum to share experiences in building cultural families in the current process of international economic integration.

During the festival, a variety of activities were held, including music and dance performances, a ceremony to launch a programme for building family libraries, and martial arts performances by elderly people.

*** Also on June 25, an exchange programme was held in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the 10th anniversary of National Family Day (June 28).

On the occasion, outstanding members of exemplary families were honoured for their efforts to build a happy home despite numerous difficulties in their daily lives.

*** The same day, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism launched a movement to encourage people to create their own family libraries.

Two family libraries of Professor Doctor Pham Duc Duong in Hanoi and farmer Bui Dinh Thang from Hung Yen province were on display as examples to promote a reading culture.
