Vietnamese expatriates in Vladivostok mark National Reunification Day
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Consulate in Vladivostok, Russia, on April 30 held a wreath-laying ceremony at President Ho Chi Minh’s monument to mark the 51st anniversary of National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 – 2026).
The event brought together consular staff, representatives of the Russia–Vietnam Friendship Association, veterans’ organisations, members of the Vietnamese community in Primorye, and Vietnamese students living and studying in Vladivostok.
During the ceremony, delegates observed a moment of silence in remembrance of President Ho Chi Minh, the revered leader who dedicated his life to Vietnam’s struggle for independence and national reunification.
Speakers emphasised that the April 30 victory over American imperialism remains a historic milestone not only for Vietnam but also for peace-loving people worldwide, made possible by the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh.
Consul General Nguyen Viet Kien highlighted Vietnam’s key achievements over more than half a century since reunification. He noted that Vietnam has risen to become the world’s 32nd largest economy, with a GDP of approximately US$510 billion, and continues to strengthen its position on the global stage.
He also acknowledged the important contributions of overseas Vietnamese communities, including those in the Primorye region of Russia, to the country’s development.
Evgeniy Evgenievich Vlasov, chairman of the Russia–Vietnam Friendship Association in Primorye, said Vietnam’s April 30 victory holds historical significance comparable to Russia’s Victory Day on May 9.
He described both milestones as sacred to each nation’s history and expressed confidence that younger generations will continue to uphold traditions and further strengthen bilateral friendship.
Representatives of the Vietnamese community in Primorye, including Do Tuan Nghia and Dao Manh Dung, expressed deep gratitude to previous generations who sacrificed for national independence.
They reaffirmed their commitment to preserving unity, striving in study and work, and contributing to Vietnam’s development while fostering Vietnam–Russia friendship.
The ceremony concluded in a solemn and emotional atmosphere, reflecting national pride, gratitude, and confidence in Vietnam’s continued development, as well as the long-standing friendship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.
