The Vietnamese business association in Germany held a meeting in Berlin on January 31 to welcome the Lunar New Year festival (Tet). Similar activities took place in Macau (China) and Hong Kong.

The President of the Vietnamese business association in Germany, Vo Van Long, reviewed its activities during 2009, including its third congress and the fourth Vietnam business forum in Europe amid the difficulties of the German economy and the world’s financial crisis. 

Long said the year 2010 will mark the 35th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic ties, and the Vietnam business association in Germany will exert greater effort to contribute more to the success of “Vietnamese Year in Germany” and increase friendship between the two countries. 

The same day, the Vietnamese Consulate General in the Macau Special Administrative Region (China) organized an art performance to hail the upcoming Tet holidays, attracting many overseas Vietnamese and guest workers in the region. 

Consul General Pham Cao Phong said cooperation between Vietnam and the Macau Special Administrative Region of China has been expanded in many sectors, especially labour export. 
Earlier on Jan. 29, a get-together for the same purpose was held in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, where Consul General Pham Cao Phong highlighted the cooperation achievements between Vietnam and the special administration region in trade, investment, tourism and education. 

Vietnam ranks 18th among Hong Kong’s trade partners, with total bilateral trade value standing at US$4.4 billion, up 19.4 percent from 2008. Meanwhile, Hong Kong ranks 7th among countries and territories that investing in Vietnam with total investment of US$891 million, double the 2008 figure.
