Vietnamese designs win Arcasia Awards for Architectures 19

VOV.VN -Three Vietnamese designs have won the Arcasia Awards for Architectures with the buildings using mainly brick and environmentally-friendly materials.

The back of the Brick Cave building in Hanoi.
Originally designed by Doan Thanh Ha of H&P Architects, the Brick Cave was first built in 2007 and covers an area of nearly 300sq.m.
The building’s structure is made up of and enclosed by two layers of brick walls which meet at an intersection. The building is accesorised by green arrangements of plants and vegetables.
The Brick Cave encompasses a series of spaces which are interconnected with one another with spaces gradually shifting between openness and privacy and vice versa. This combination of “close” and “open” spaces creates a diverse relation with the area’s surroundings.
Long An House
The house was designed by Nguyen Hai Long of Tropical Space.
Built entirely from rustic bricks in a trapezoidal form, the split in the roof allows for greater air circulation and provides the centre of the building with natural light. This means that homeowners do not need to regulate heat all year round.
Castaway Island Resort
The resort was designed by Vo Trong Nghia of VTN Architects.
The Castaway Island Resort is located in Cat Ba island in Hai Phong and contains enough rooms for 160 visitors. The site covers an area of 3,000 square metres and consists of five bungalows, a restaurant, and a pavilion.
The building is made from bamboo which is covered by a thatched roof in a traditional Vietnamese style. There is a total of 13 main structures in the building with each one being built from 80 bamboo trees. The bungalows feature a shell structure that creates an open space to let visitors interact with both each other and nature.
