A delegation of Vietnamese residents in Thailand, many of whom are over 80, arrived in Hanoi on February 7 to receive the Independent Order, first class and to welcome the Lunar New Year Festival (Tet).
The Independent Order, first class, conferred on the Vietnamese community in Thailand in recognition of their contributions to the two resistance wars for national independence, will be presented by State President Nguyen Minh Triet during the Tet programme at the National Convention Centre on February 9.
Earlier, the Vietnamese embassy in Thailand had received the delegation. Speaking at the meeting, ambassador Nguyen Duy Hung said the Independent Order is a precious gift offered by the Party, State and people in the homeland in recognition of the great contributions made by generations of Vietnamese living in Thailand during the past struggle for national independence as well as in the current process of national construction. The ambassador expressed his belief that the Vietnamese community in Thailand will continue to unite, build a strong community and further contribute to the homeland, as well as to the development of relations between Vietnam and Thailand.
Pham Van Vi said on behalf of other Vietnamese that he is very delighted at returning home this time to receive the order. The Vietnamese community in Thailand is always aware of the importance of strengthening national unity and living harmoniously with Thai people, he added.
