Vietnamese community in Brunei celebrates Lunar New Year 2026
VOV.VN - The Embassy of Vietnam in Brunei has hosted a “Homeland Spring” programme for the Vietnamese community there to celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
The Tet gathering brought together more than 100 representatives of the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in Brunei, along with local and international friends.
Addressing the event, Ambassador Tran Anh Vu updated participants on Vietnam’s recent socio-economic achievements and key outcomes of the 14th National Party Congress, emphasizing the country’s reform momentum and development orientation in the coming years.
The ambassador commended the Vietnamese community and liaison board in Brunei for their active engagement, including contributions to discussions related to national development and community activities. He also acknowledged the role of overseas Vietnamese and Vietnamese businesses in strengthening cooperation between Vietnam and Brunei, particularly in trade, cultural exchange and people-to-people connectivity.
He expressed hope that the community would continue fostering solidarity, supporting one another abroad, and contributing knowledge and resources to Vietnam’s development.
On this occasion, the Embassy officially launched the Vietnam Cultural Space, established with contributions from the community and Vietnamese businesses in Brunei. The space aims to introduce Vietnamese cultural values and products to local friends and partners, and to promote cultural exchange activities.
The space also serves as a platform for cultural exchange activities, notably the Vietnamese language teaching programme at Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
In addition, the Cultural Space features materials and publications about Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh, including works by international scholars and partners highlighting his life and legacy.
Following the launch ceremony, the Cultural Space welcomed numerous visitors, including ambassadors from Laos, Cambodia and Thailand, as well as representatives from Brunei’s cultural and music associations.
