This is the first training course for occasional teachers of Vietnamese in France and those who want to teach Vietnamese. During the two- week course, more than 20 trainees will be updated with the latest knowledge and teaching methodologies.
Therese Nguyen Van Ky, president of the Vietnamese Association in France said that the trainees will make full use of their knowledge and experience to teach Vietnamese children in France, which will enable young Vietnamese people in France to become closer to their homeland.
Maintaining Vietnamese in overseas Vietnamese residents, especially of the third and fourth generations has attracted a lot of attention from their community as they have little opportunity to practice their mother tongue.
Some Overseas Vietnamese associations have set up centres or classes to teach Vietnamese but they lack teachers and adequate syllabus.
To deal with this, the Prime Minister has authorised the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to develop a project to increase teaching and learning Vietnamese abroad from now to 2020 to meet the increasing demand. Currently, the committee is carrying out a pilot project in Laos, Cambodia, Russia, the Czech Republic, the US and Canada. In addition, the MoET is also setting up a project to support the teaching of Vietnamese overseas.
