Women organisations of Vietnam and Cambodia will closely join programmes to promote gender equality, boost poverty reduction efforts, improve women's health, and prevent maltreatment to women and children.

An agreement for joint cooperation in the 2007-2010 period was signed at a ceremony held by the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) and the Cambodian Women for Peace and Development Association (CWPD) in Phnom Penh on January 26.

Under the agreement, the women organisations in An Giang, Tay Ninh and Dong Thap provinces of Vietnam, and Takeo, Kandal, Prey Veng, Kompong Cham and Svay Rieng provinces of Cambodia will exchange experiences in organising women-related activities and join cooperative programmes for socio-economic development, women's health care, and prevention of social evils and human trafficking across the border. They will help their members better understand the Vietnam-Cambodia Border Delimitation Treaty in order to raise their responsibilities toward protecting border areas.
