Vietnam-US Society elects new head

Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, was elected as President of the Vietnam-US Society (VUS) for the 2021-2026 tenure at the fourth congress of the association on December 3.

In his remarks, Vinh, who is also former Vietnamese Ambassador to the US, expressed his hope for new breakthroughs in people-to-people diplomacy between the two countries, contributing to elevating the bilateral relationship to a new height.

Delegates at the congress reviewed outstanding achievements recorded by the VUS over the past term.

Ambassador Nguyen Tam Chien, VUS President for 2012-2021 said the association has utilised people-to-people diplomacy to support external affairs of the Party and the State, helping to enhance the Vietnam-US ties, ease their differences, consolidate mutual trust, and expand cooperation opportunities between the two States and peoples.

Le Hoai Trung, head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, lauded the VUS for its performance over the past time, and urged the association to work harder in the time ahead.   
   
The delegates shared the view that the VUS should focus on promoting the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership intensively and extensively, and improving its operational quality to expand people-to-people diplomacy with the US.
