Vietnam tour bus crash: 5 killed in collision with semi

VOV.VN - There was no appearance of braking when a tractor trailer sideswiped a tour bus on Wednesday, August 16, on Highway 1A in Binh Dinh Province, killing 5 passengers, police officials said.

There were no skid marks from the tractor trailer at the time of the collision, police officials told reporters.

The only skid marks were directly related to the tour bus that literally was shredded with its left side ripped off and the interior contents strewn down hundreds of metres of roadway.

One official said he was told by an officer that the accident occurred at about 9:30pm in the district of Phu My. The driver of the big rig, Nguyen Van Huong, 28, was not injured.

Five passengers on the tour bus, all Vietnamese nationals, died at the scene. The driver of the passenger bus, Nguyen Long Ho, 44, was not injured.

The police are still investigating the cause of the crash. Among many factors they will look at are the driving records of both drivers, accident history and level of training, a police official said.

It is not known whether alcohol was a factor in the accident.
