Vietnam needs to build an early warning and quick response system to cope with the increased risks of dangerous epidemics in the region and the world.

The opinion was shared by epidemiologists and healthcare experts at a national workshop on dangerous infectious diseases held in Hanoi on August 17.

The workshop collected suggestions to the construction of a national system for early warning and quick response of dangerous diseases, including newly emerging ones, in order to effectively control and prevent them from spreading in the community.

The country's system will be connected with the Early Warning Reporting Systems (EWARS) or the Early Warning Outbreak Reporting Systems (EWORS) of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other regional countries.

EWARS and EWORS were recognised and recommended by the WHO as effective tools to prevent dangerous epidemics.
