The three-day event was launched on July 26 as part of the celebrations of the 30th founding anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic ties (August 6). There will be an exhibition on scientific and technological cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand, and seminars on using remote sensing to monitor floods, on flu type A/H5N1, and on scientific and technological policies of the two nations.
Since the signing of an agreement on scientific, technological and environmental cooperation in 1997, Vietnam and Thailand have implemented many joint projects on biotechnology, computer technology and electronics, remote sensing and geographical information system, and post-harvest technology.
Some of these projects have brought about encouraging results, benefiting both countries in environmental protection, eco-tourism development and fruit market promotion.
The two countries have also cooperated effectively in working out a forest fire warning map for Vietnam, as well as in monitoring landslide-prone areas in northern mountainous Lao Cai province and floods in central Binh Dinh province.
