Agricultural experts from Vietnam and Thailand shared experiences in boosting poverty reduction efforts and increasing the living conditions of ethnic people in rural areas at a workshop in Hanoi on September 21.

Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hua Duc Nhi said that during the past 30 years, Vietnam and Thailand have implemented many effective cooperation projects on agriculture and husbandry, helping reduce the poverty rate significantly in the rural area.

Vietnam
will continue to cooperate with Thailand in applying modern technology to aquaculture, crop restructuring and high-quality medical services in mountainous areas, he said.

Mom Rajawongse Disnadda Diskul, General Secretary of the Mae Fah Luang Foundation – a non-profit organisation in support of Thai ethnic groups, said Thailand will help ethnic Vietnamese groups develop high-quality brocades to export to other countries. He also pledged to help Vietnam train highly skilled human resources to produce woodwork products and consumer goods.

Narumi Yamada, representative of the United Nations Office for Drug Control (UNODC) highly valued cooperation projects between Vietnam and Thailand and said the two countries should focus on projects to wipe out poppy cultivation in remote and mountainous regions.

Experts also discussed policies on environmental protection, high-quality education system and job generation for ethnic groups.
