Vietnam aims to eliminate all imports and use of CFC chemicals by 2010 in an effort to protect the ozone layer, said Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Cong Thanh at a seminar held in Hanoi on October 9.
Entitled "Vietnamese Freezing and Air-condition Sector- Current Status and Development", the seminar was focused on evaluating activities related to consultancy works and social assessment in protecting the ozone layer in line with the Montreal Protocol.
The Ministry of Trade has collaborated with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to restrict CFC imports since August 2005. It plans to put a complete end to the licensing of these imports by January, 2010.
The government has forbidden the import of freezing equipment using CFCs since January, 2006.
