Vietnam, RoK bolster social welfare co-operation

During the signing ceremony for the MoU, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) Le Tan Dung highlighted significant progress across multiple fields such as  politics, economics, trade, investment, development aid, tourism, and labour after nearly three decades since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The RoK has become Vietnam’s largest foreign investor with over 6,000 projects serving to create over 70,000 jobs, thus ensuring the social security of workers.

Deputy Minister Dung emphasised that the social welfare policies of the RoK have reached a number of outstanding landmarks in recent decades, noting that lifelong social welfare services are even guaranteed to citizens before they are born.

The MoLISA representative added that the country can learn from the RoK’s experience when deploying its own policies and models relating to care for the elderly, low-income earners, and disadvantaged groups.

Deputy Minister Dung affirmed that the signing of the MoU will set out a framework for co-operation that both sides can use to strengthen activities throughout the field of social welfare by exchanging policies and experience in the related field. 

For his part, Deputy Minister of the RoK’s Ministry of Health and Welfare Ganglip Kim stressed that one of the Korean government’s key aims is to boost co-operative relations with Vietnam, adding that both sides are keen to seek new opportunities for future co-operation through the signing of the MoU, especially in the field of social welfare.

Deputy Minister Kim said the signing will serve to help both Korean and Vietnamese people enjoy greater standards of social welfare policies in which they are able to enjoy a better life.

Under the terms of the MoU, the two sides have agreed to encourage and promote co-operation in the field of social welfare based on the principle of fairness and mutual benefit in line with the law and regulations of each nation.

They will step up co-operation on social welfare programs and policies relating to infants, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
