Vietnam on October 23 confirmed four more deaths, including two pregnant women, from A/H1N1 flu, bringing the number of fatalities from the virus to 31.

The pregnant victims include a 25 year-old woman from central Phu Yen province, who was in her fourth month of pregnancy. The other, aged 24, from the Central Highland province of Gia Lai, was entering her seventh month of pregnancy.

The two other victims are a 2 year-old girl, who was reportedly born with congenial heart disease and a 48 year-old woman, who was suffering from a blood disease.

The new fatalities were in the high-risk groups that the Ministry of Health has asked the Government’s permission to inoculate against the potentially deadly flu.

As of 17:00 the same day, Vietnam confirmed 10,376 A/H1N1 infections scattered across 59 provinces and cities. However, 9,952 of those have recovered and been discharged from hospital.

Now that Vietnam has a formula to vaccinate against H1N1 flu for various ages-except patients with chronic diseases-the Health Ministry is building a H1N1 flu vaccination plan.

The Ministry affirmed that there is no shortage of medicine to treat H1N1, the volume of Tamiflu is still large (over 354,000 tablets) and more are being producing.

As winter approaches, conditions will provide the life-threatening flu more opportunities to develop. The Health Ministry recommends that people diligently follow precautionary measures to control the disease to protect themselves and the community.

At present, 59 out of 63 cities and provinces in Vietnam have A/H1N1 patients.
