A conference was held in Hanoi on Jan. 14 to evaluate the results of movements launched by the Vietnam Red Cross Society in 2009.

During the past year, the Vietnam Red Cross Society mobilised more than VND400 billion to support flood and storm victims and provided medical check-up for thousands of people in remote areas.

The Society also collected nearly 1.5 million units of blood from volunteers and successfully implemented the programmes in support of Agent Orange victims and poor people during the lunar New Year Festival (Tet). It also built 8,624 charity houses for the poor and social policy beneficiaries.

Addressing the conference, the Deputy Chairman and General Secretary of the Vietnam Red Cross Society’s Central Committee, Doan Van Thai, said that priority will be given to charitable activities in 2010.
