Vietnam receives 100,000 Sputnik Light vaccine doses from Russia
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health (MoH) on December 29 received 100,000 doses of the Sputnik Light COVID-19 vaccine presented by Russia to support Vietnam’s COVID-19 fight.
Addressing the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health, thanked the Russian Government for the gift, which he said is a testament to the solidarity and friendship between the two countries, as well as to both countries’ desires to soon control the pandemic.
Amid the complicated nature of the COVID-19 outbreak, strengthening international cooperation is of great significance in finding out effective measures to protect people’s health and safety, and contribute to mitigating the impact of the pandemic on socio-economic affairs in each country, he stressed.
He said the Ministry of Health will effectively use this donation to meet the requirements of urgent pandemic prevention and control in Vietnam.
Russian ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko voiced Russia’s support for Vietnam’s ongoing COVID-19 fight, and said Russia is willing to accompany Vietnam in this challenging war.
Sputnik Light is a single dose COVID-19 vaccine that has been developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of Russia. It is said to be 79.4% effective against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
One injection of Sputnik Light “significantly reduces the possibility of severe cases leading to hospitalization,” said the Russian Direct Investment Fund that backed the development of the vaccine.
