Deputy PM Nhan noted that both countries will continue with their implementation of the protocol on education and training cooperation for the 2006-2010 period. Every year the Vietnamese government grants scholarships to Cambodian students for undergraduate and graduate education.

Vietnam has completed a vocational boarding school in Rattanakiri and is preparing to hand over another vocational school in Modunkiri.

Minister Sitthi expressed his sincere thanks to Vietnam for its assistance in education and training, especially helping to build boarding schools in the country’s northeastern region.

He also said that the management of Vietnamese scholarships will be handled carefully so that by 2015, Vietnam will become the premier destination for Cambodian students. Teaching the Vietnamese language in Cambodian universities will also be stepped up.

Mr Sitthi also suggested that both countries draw up annual cooperation plans instead of the five-year plans as before.
