Vietnam promotes youth development policy

VOV.VN-Investing in young people and safeguarding their rights is essential to their development and their families, communities and countries, emphasized the Representatives of MOHA and UNFPA.

A workshop to share international experiences on Youth Development Policy was held on March, 2 by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA), with the technical support from the United Nations Population’s Fund (UNFPA) in Vietnam.

Data from the 2014 Inter-Census Population Servey shows that Vietnam has entered a “golden population” period, recording the highest proportion of young people in Vietnam’s history. Young people now present one third of the total population.

This presents Vietnam with a one-time and unique opportunity in its history to make this golden period the driver for socio-economic prosperity, by ensure that every young people is educated and supported to achieve his or her full potential.

Vietnam has achieved many progressive achievements in youth ralated issues over the past year. However, young people are still facing many difficulties and challenges to reach their full potential.

Safeguarding young people’s rights and investing in their future by providing quality education, decent employment, effective livehood skills, and access to sexual and reproductive health and comprehensive sexuality education that emphasizes gender equality, is essential to their development and that of their families, communities and the country as a whole.

In his remarks, Vice Minister of MOHA Nguyen Trong Thua emphasized, “Young people are the driving force for change, who will build a bright future of the country. Young people are placed in the heart of the human resource development strategy. Young care and development are objectives pursued by the country as they are the driving force to ensure the country’s stability and sustainable development."

Ms.Astrid Bant, UNFPA Representative in Vietnam said, “It’s time for Vietnam to review its work to provide better support to young people. It’s now time to invest in young people. Investing in young people is an investing in our future. Naturally, this pathway requires investment. And, to be the most effective, this investment requires coordination across sectors and old and new partners."
