Vietnam needs over 1,000 highly trained staff from now until 2020, said Vuong Huu Tan, Director of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VAEI).
He added that it will be necessary to employ between 6,000-10,000 trained workers to build a nuclear power plant.
At the same time, universities need to improve their staff’s knowledge on nuclear issues by sending them abroad for more indepth training.
Another measure is to invite experts from countries with advanced nuclear power industries to train younger staff on the technologies used in nuclear power and in safety techniques.
Vietnam should also make full use of existing cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The 800 people currently working in nuclear power sector should also enjoy good salaries and working conditions.
