Vietnam has planned to send 80,000 workers abroad in 2007, according to the Overseas Workers Management Department of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).

To achieve this goal, apart from maintaining traditional markets, the MoLISA will work hard to expand its foothold in the Middle East region and explore new, high-income markets, such as Australia and Canada.

The ministry will require localities and labour export businesses to continue improving the training of workers, and strengthen its supervision to prevent violations of labour export regulations.

This year, Vietnam has sent nearly 79,000 workers abroad, 5 percent above target and 11 percent up compared to last year's figure.

Malaysia remains the country's largest market with 40,000 Vietnamese guest workers, followed by Taiwan and the Republic of Korea.

Policies relating to labour export have been improved, marking by the recent approval of the law on sending Vietnamese workers abroad by the National Assembly which clearly defined the duties of workers and responsibilities of exporters, as well as relevant agencies.

Localities have also opened more training courses to equip workers with not only professional skills but also legal information in order to create a stable and quality labour source for export.
