According to recent medical statistics, 56 percent of men and 1.8 percent of women in Vietnam are smokers.
Smoking is not only harmful to smokers’ health but also to people who breathe in cigarette smoke. It is estimated that around 700 million children in the world are often affected by smoke.
Vietnam has adopted an anti-smoking policy aimed at providing information about harmful effects of cigarette smoking, and prohibiting smoking in public places and selling cigarettes to under 18-year old children. The smoking prevention programme has achieved significant results thanks to great support from relevant ministries, departments and organisations.
