A court in the south-central province of Binh Thuan has sentenced a 24-year-old local man to death for kidnapping and murdering a fifth grader in April.
Nguyen Bao Vu was sentenced to eight years in prison for kidnapping and a capital punishment for killing, with the death penalty being the final punishment.
The judge told the mobile court that the act of killing a fifth grader by the defendant is considered inhumane and aggressive.

According to the court documents, on April 4 night, Phan Khac Dung did not see his 11-year-old son P.K.U.N. coming back from his martial art class. He then reported his son’s missing to local police.
Dung later received a text message, saying his son had been kidnapped at a ransom of VND 200 million (US$8,900).
As Dung could not arrange the requested amount of money soon, he negotiated to first pay a smaller amount of VND60 million (US$2,700). The kidnapper agreed and eventually took that money.
On April 5, Dung was asked to come and pick up his son at a location in the provincial capital of Phan Thiet. However, when coming to the meeting place, Dung did not see anyone and could not contact the kidnapper.
Binh Thuan police later identify that Vu is the most prominent suspect. The 24-year-old later admitted to kidnapping and killing the young child, and buried him at a local beach.
