Vietnam looks to stronger cooperation with CLATE

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s Ambassador to Argentina, Ngo Minh Nguyet, received CLATE President Julio Fuentes at the embassy in Buenos Aires on March 17, with the two sides discussing stronger cooperation between the Latin American and Caribbean public-sector union organisation and Vietnamese trade unions.

Fuentes said the Latin American and Caribbean Confederation of State Workers (CLATE) established in 1967, is an international trade union organisation that brings together 87 public-sector unions from 20 Latin American and Caribbean countries, representing 5.3 million members.

He also presented the organisation’s international cooperation activities, with emphasis on recent experience in strengthening links with Asian countries. Expanding relations with the region is one of CLATE’s strategic priorities in the context of deepening globalisation and integration, he said.

Ngo Minh Nguyet thanked CLATE for its interest and visit, and provided an overview of Vietnam’s political, economic and social situation. She highlighted the country’s struggle for independence, as well as its process of building and developing under a socialist-oriented market economy.

The ambassador said the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour is a large socio-political organisation of the working class and labourers, with the function of representing and protecting the lawful rights and interests of workers, promoting dialogue between workers and employees, and taking care of workers’ lives, contributing to economic development and social stability.

Promoting cooperation between CLATE and Vietnamese trade unions was one of the main contents of the exchange. The two sides discussed the possibility of increasing experience exchange, sharing information and organising joint activities.

CLATE introduced academic forums and discussions it has conducted with China and India, and expressed its wish to organise information exchange activities with Vietnam and member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Both sides consented  to strengthen coordination in implementing cooperation projects, focusing on information exchange, enhancing  links between the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and CLATE member organisations, as well as building academic and dialogue platforms on institutional models, development policies and Vietnam’s experience in managing the socialist-oriented market economy.
