Vietnam leads Southeast Asia in Gemini use for learning
VOV.VN - Vietnam ranks first in Southeast Asia in the use of Google's Gemini for learning and has the region's highest share of prompts submitted in the Vietnamese language, according to a Google report released on July 14.
The findings highlight the growing role of artificial intelligence in education, programming and mathematical reasoning among Vietnamese users.
Google said learning-related activities account for 17% of all prompts submitted by users in Vietnam through Gemini, the highest proportion among Southeast Asian countries. More than 160,000 students use the Gemini Canvas exam preparation tool each month, while educators generate around 55,000 teaching-related prompts every day.
Vietnam also records the highest use of a local language on the platform in Southeast Asia, with 89% of prompts submitted in Vietnamese. Vietnamese users rely on Gemini’s translation and localisation features more than users in any other market in the region, reflecting strong demand for tools that connect domestic learning and working environments with international sources of information.
The report also places Vietnam among Southeast Asia’s leading markets for coding- and mathematics-related prompts. Nearly one-third of all Gemini interactions in the country take place on desktop computers, suggesting that users are increasingly turning to AI for more complex and productivity-focused tasks.
Across Southeast Asia, Google said the number of monthly active users of the Gemini app has more than doubled over the past year, making the region the platform's fastest-growing market worldwide. Gemini is also the most searched AI assistant in Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand.
The report examines Gemini usage trends across six Southeast Asian countries, namely Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. According to Google, the region makes a significant contribution to Gemini’s global milestone of 900 million monthly active users. The company attributes the rapid growth to Southeast Asia's young and tech-savvy population, as well as Gemini’s improving ability to process local languages.
Google also noted that younger users are the platform’s most active users in Southeast Asia. Compared with other age groups, they tend to submit longer prompts, engage in more multi-turn conversations and use AI for increasingly sophisticated tasks in education, work and content creation.
