The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) on July 7 launched the 2009 Corporate Social Responsibility Awards to honour businesses from all economic sectors which have performed their social responsibility well in the areas of environment and labour.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Hanoi in December.
The awards aim to raise businesses’ awareness of their responsibility for the sustainable development not just of themselves but also of their community and society. The awards will encourage enterprises to share their experience in labour management and help link them with international businesses and forums.
The awards are also expected to serve as a driving force impelling businesses to improve working conditions and protect the environment, thereby raising their own prestige and competitiveness, said Doan Duy Khuong, Vice President of the VCCI.
A representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Junichi Mori, praised Vietnam’s efforts to hold such an event and affirmed UNIDO’s readiness to support such activities in Vietnam. Mr Mori expressed his hope that more and more foreign-invested businesses will take part in the awards in the future.
