The transport ministries of Vietnam and Laos have discussed future plans for cooperation in building road and conducting a feasibility study into a railway project to link the provinces of Quang Binh and Khammoune.

The visiting Vietnamese Minister of Transport Ho Nghia Dung and the Lao Minister of Transport, Posts and Construction, Sommath Phonsena, compared notes at their working session in Vientiane on February 10.

The two ministers highlighted bilateral cooperation, particularly in the recent completion of Road No. 18B connecting Vietnam's Central Highlands Kon Tum province and Attapeu province of Laos with soft loan of US$48 million from the Vietnamese government.

The road is expected to promote trade, investment and tourism ties between Vietnam's Central Highlands provinces and Laos’ central localities, as well as the growth of the Laos-Vietnam-Cambodia development triangle.

Before his departure on February 11, Minister Dung paid a courtesy visit to Lao Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad.
