Vietnamese and Lao authorities and experts have agreed to tighten customs procedures to discover and control ozone depleting substances (ODS) from import-export activities through bordergates.
The agreement was reached at a recent symposium held in Lao Bao town in the central province of Quang Tri by the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) and the Lao Agency of Science - Technology and Environment.
The MNRE highlighted the key notes of the Vienna Convention on Ozone Layer Protection and the Montreal Protocol on ODS Control and measures to control ODS in Vietnam by tightening customs procedures. The ministry also presented a device to detect ODS in import-export batches.
Vietnam signed the Vienna Convention on Ozone Layer Protection and the Montreal Protocol on ODS Control in 1994.
Vietnam and Laos have worked closely together in an effort to fully meet their international commitments to ozone layer protection.
