Vietnam grants approval for Russian Sputnik V vaccine

VOV.VN - Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong signed a decision on March 23 to approve the conditional import and use of the Sputnik V vaccine from Russia.

Sputnik V is produced by Generium JSC and is typically administered in two shots three weeks apart with doses stored at below 18 degrees Celsius. Indeed, the vaccine also has a six-month shelf life.

The Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals (Polyvac) is responsible for co-ordinating efforts with the vaccine manufacturer to promptly respond to requests by the Ministry of Health, as well as providing and updating new information relating to the vaccine.

The Ministry of Health has tasked the Administration of Science Technology and Training with making clinical assessment regarding the vaccine’s safety and immunogenicity. In addition, the National Institute for Control of Vaccines and Biologicals (NICVB) was been requested to conduct trials on the vaccine before it is put into use.

Furthermore, the Drug Administration of Vietnam has also been asked to issue an import license for the Sputnik V vaccine.

This comes after the AstraZeneca vaccine was previously granted approval.
