Vietnam Embassy in Egypt celebrates National Day

VOV.VN - Hundreds of dignitaries and guests celebrated the 71st anniversary of Vietnam National Day (September 2) in the Middle Eastern capital city of Cairo at the Vietnam Embassy in Egypt.

Prominent among the guests were the governor of Cairo – Major General Ahmad Taymor Shawqy Abduallah – along with Egyptian Deputy Foreign Minister Yasser Murad and hundreds of officials from Egyptian governmental ministries.

Also in attendance were members of the Egyptian and Vietnamese diplomatic corps and their staff, international press agencies, business and community leaders, and a large representative group of the Overseas Vietnamese community in Egypt.

In a keynote address, Ambassador Do Hoang Long recalled the historical significance of the August Revolution and the nation's Independence Day, reviewed the great achievements the people of Vietnam have achieved during the past 71 years in the struggle to defend the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, national reunification and Doi Moi reforms over the past three decades.

The Ambassador emphasized the successful outcomes of the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the strategic direction of foreign policy of the Congress, determined to concretize and improve the efficiency of foreign affairs and international integration of Vietnam.

On the occasion, Ambassador Long also reviewed the relations of friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Egypt over the past half a century, saying it sprung from the relationship, President Nasser and President Ho Chi Minh initiated and nurtured, which is solidly grounded in a platform of independence and freedom for all nations.

On behalf of the Egyptian government, the Governor of Cairo – Major General Shawqy Abduallah – in turn sent greetings to the people on Vietnam's National Day, saying he praised and appreciated the achievements of the people of Vietnam in the cause of building and defending the country, as well as contributing to peace and stability of the region and the world.

On behalf of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister Yasser Murad expressed his confidence that the traditional relations of friendship between the two countries will become more developed and prosperous in the years to come.

At the ceremony, guests were invited to visit a gallery exhibiting a variety of publications, photo books introducing Vietnam and its achievements over the past 71 years of independence.

At the event guests were also introduced to the culture and customs of Vietnam and had the opportunity to enjoy traditional dishes at a large number of food stands that included such delicacies as pho, spring rolls, and shredded chicken.

Earlier, on the morning of September 1, representatives of President of Egypt visited the Embassy headquarters, conveyed congratulations of President El Sisi to the people of Vietnam, expressing the hope for continuing the success of the past 71 years for even greater achievements and enhanced bilateral relations in the future.
