Vietnam, China boost green industry cooperation toward sustainable development

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Embassy in China and the International Cooperation Center under China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on May 18 jointly organized the Vietnam-China Green Industry Cooperation and Exchange Program in Beijing.

The event aimed to strengthen policy exchanges, share experience and promote practical cooperation among agencies, organizations and businesses of the two countries in green industry, which is an important strategic direction amid climate change and global environmental challenges.

Around 80 delegates attended the program, including Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Thanh Binh, Minister Counselor Hoang Van Tuan, Wu Hongliang, Director General of the International Cooperation Center under the NDRC, representatives from Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Ministry of Industry and Trade, as well as more than 70 guests from training institutions, industrial parks and enterprises operating in the green industry sector in both countries.

In his opening speech, Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh said the Party and State of Vietnam regard green and sustainable development as a consistent strategic direction. He noted that the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam placed environmental policy on par with economic and social policy, creating new policy space for the 2026-2030 period and viewing green development as a lever for restructuring the growth model, linked to growth quality and national competitiveness.

The ambassador said Vietnam highly values China’s achievements in renewable energy, environmental management and carbon markets, adding that both sides boast huge potential to expand practical and mutually beneficial cooperation in green industry.

For the Chinese side, Wu Hongliang said that based on the memorandum of understanding on green development cooperation signed in December 2023 between the NDRC and Vietnam’s former Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the two countries should focus on three priorities in the coming period: harmonizing rules toward common green standards; expanding cooperation in green manufacturing, clean energy and the circular economy; and improving long-term support mechanisms for technology and human resources.

Wu stated that this year marks the first year China is implementing its 15th Five-Year Plan, which continues to prioritize ecological security and green, sustainable development. He said the NDRC is ready to serve as a bridge to help elevate bilateral cooperation in green industry.

During the program, representatives from Vietnam’s FPT Group and VietinBank, as well as China’s Ziya Economic and Technological Development Zone in Tianjin, China Urban-Rural Holding Co., Ltd., Botao Intelligent Thermal Power Company in Jiangsu and Shanghai Kangheng Environment Co., Ltd., shared practical experience in areas,  including green industry cooperation, circular economy industrial park models, wastewater treatment, green finance, solid waste treatment and waste-to-energy conversion. Delegates also held discussions on issues of shared interest.

Participants said the Vietnam-China Green Industry Cooperation and Exchange Program had opened up strong potential for cooperation and marked a meaningful new starting point for bilateral collaboration. They said the program will help the two sides continue strengthening friendship, deepen strategic connectivity, promote complementary strengths, maintain effective exchange channels, accelerate high-quality projects, share green technologies and expand green finance cooperation.

According to participants, those efforts will contribute to further deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and promoting the building of a Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance in the new era.
