A congress was held in Hanoi on June 4 to establish the Vietnam-Brazil Friendship Association. Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Van Lang was elected as Chairman of the Association.

The congress adopted an action plan to promote cultural exchange and boost education and sports cooperation between the two countries.

Addressing the event, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Vu Xuan Hong said that since Vietnam and Brazil established diplomatic ties in 1989, the two countries’ relationship and cooperation have developed steadily, especially in the fields of politics, economics, culture, education, and science and technology.

Mr Hong expressed his hope that Brazil would work closely with Vietnam to launch activities for peace, solidarity and friendship.

Brazil is the largest economy in Latin America and the world’s 10th most powerful economy. In 1994, Brazil became the first South American country to establish its Embassy in Hanoi.
