Vietnam aspires to step up labor cooperation with Germany
VOV.VN - Vietnam wants to make labor cooperation a key pillar of its strategic partnership with Germany, Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs Leonie Gebers said during a working session with Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Nguyen Dac Thanh in Berlin on April 9.
Both sides discussed measures to beef up labor cooperation, vocational training, and strengthen coordination between the two countries’ management bodies in the coming period.
Gebers spoke highly of activities carried out by Vietnamese ministries, sectors and the embassy in Berlin to implement the outcomes of the Vietnam-Germany Labor Cooperation Forum held in Leipzig in December 2025 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
She shared positive assessments from politicians and local administrations regarding the successful integration and contributions of the Vietnamese community in Germany. She said she will continue close coordination with Vietnam’s Ministry of Home Affairs and relevant agencies, with an immediate plan to organize an online seminar to exchange good practices, sign cooperation agreements, and tighten management measures, with a view to making labor cooperation a key pillar of bilateral ties.
On behalf of Vietnam’s Ministry of Home Affairs, Ambassador Nguyen Dac Thanh proposed that Gebers facilitate the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the ministry and the German state of Thuringia, aimed at establishing a framework for recruitment, vocational training and language training for Vietnamese workers in the state.
On the same day, Ambassador Nguyen Dac Thanh worked with the German Business Association for Foreign Trade in Berlin. He was received at the association’s headquarters by Andreas Hube, federal managing director of BWA; Urs Unkauf, head of external relations; and Rolf Schulze, Chairman of the Germany-Vietnam Association and former German ambassador to Vietnam. During the meeting with the economic and foreign trade association, which also engages in policy research, the ambassador hailed the association’s support for the embassy’s activities in strengthening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
He said Vietnam hosts many large-scale trade fairs each year, including seasonal fairs (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter), Vietnam Expo, and the International Supply Chain Exhibition, which bring together many of the country’s leading manufacturers and exporters. He expressed the hope that BWA would consider organizing German business delegations to attend these key trade-linking events.
On behalf of BWA, Urs Unkauf briefed participants on the association’s recent activities to support connections between Vietnamese enterprises and organizations and German partners. Based on practical experience, he suggested that Vietnamese localities should better build and promote their brands and strengths to connect more effectively with German partners. He also said German businesses are showing growing interest in Vietnam and affirmed that BWA stands ready to host seminars or networking activities linking businesses and experts from the two countries.
Meanwhile, Rolf Schulze shared that German businesses are highly interested in Vietnam’s development story. He said cooperation between Vietnam and Germany has recorded many notable outcomes in education and culture, but should place greater priority on economic cooperation in the time ahead.
