Vietnam and Laos unite in COVID-19 fight

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung handed over 30,000 face masks to Sounthone Sayachak, head of the External Affairs Commission of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee, as a gift from the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Foreign Affairs Commission in an effort to help the neighbouring country tackle the pandemic.

Upon addressing those gathered at the hand-over ceremony, Ambassador Hung stated that although both nations have basically contained the pandemic, the two countries must remain vigilant and continue to offer mutual support. This involves jointly implementing effective disease prevention measures whilst actively promoting economic co-operation in preparation for the post-COVID-19 period, with complicated developments relating to the pandemic continuing to occur globally.

In response, Sayachak extended sincere thanks to the Party, Government, and people of Vietnam for the support given to Laos, despite the nation currently facing a challenging period, especially following heavy losses caused by natural disasters in the central region. He affirmed that the hand-over ceremony represents a clear testimony to the special relationship between the two sides.

Most notably, the useful gift will serve as an important contribution in helping Laos continue their efforts to effectively combat COVID-19, Sayachak outlined, adding that Laos pledges to make use of the masks for the correct purposes, whilst aiming to achieve high efficiency in terms of pandemic prevention and control.
