The use of average technology is still popular in Vietnam as the proportion of hi-tech industries in the country represents only 20 percent, much lower than in Thailand (31 percent), Singapore (73 percent) and Malaysia (51 percent).

A seminar was held in Hanoi on September 27 under the theme of “building and developing human resources in science and technology – the real situation in Vietnam and German experiences in the field”.

The seminar is part of activities in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of scientific cooperation relations between Vietnam and Germany.

Professor Pham Manh Hung from the Central Commission for Science and Education told participants that the use of average technology is still popular in Vietnam as the proportion of hi-tech industries in the country represents only 20 percent, much lower than in Thailand (31 percent), Singapore (73 percent) and Malaysia (51 percent). The slow development of science and technology, and low quality of human resources has not yet been able to provide a foundation for the intellectual economy to boost the modernisation and industrialisation process.

Delegates presented many reports on the development of human resources in science and technology by attracting young researchers in the country and abroad, encouraging and supporting scientific and technological institutions directly involved in production and business and connecting these institutions to the market.

The General Director of the Vietnam-Germany Joint Venture Company, Dr Mai Huy Tan asked managers to pay more attention to private enterprises and small and medium sized enterprises in the field of technology transfer.

Activities in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of scientific cooperation relations between Vietnam and Germany will take place in Hanoi from September 27-29.

Hundreds of scientists, managers and entrepreneurs of the two countries will meet to review the outcomes of cooperation in science and technology between the two sides in recent years and devise orientations and measures to boost bilateral relations in future.
