Nearly 1,000 Youth Union members and students from colleges in Hanoi on July 10 attended a meeting at the city’s Tu Liem district to launch a campaign entitled “Young People” for World Population Day (July 11). Thousands of leaflets were handed out as voluntary student teams seek to educate people about population work as well as adolescent reproductive and sexual health.

**A signing ceremony was held on the same day in the central province of Dak Lak by the provincial Committee for Population, Family and Children and Labour Confederation to launch a movement opposing the birth of a third child among state employees.

** Population and family planning work has experienced significant positive changes in central Lam Dong province recently, illustrated by the fact that nearly no cadre or party member has had a third child in the locality.

Lam Dong has adopted a variety of important solutions to facilitate the Party Politburo’s Resolution 47 on population and family planning until 2010. A leading solution is to provide stronger leadership by the local governments and party committees in the field, as well as to improve the pioneer role of every party member, who is expected to regard population reduction as an essential duty in local socio-economic development strategies. In addition, the province has paid due attention to reinforcing the staff in charge of population-related work, especially helping them improve communication skills.
