The iBoP project, which was launched by the Ateneo Philippines Management University and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada, promotes scientific and technological initiatives for poverty reduction.
Participants focused their discussions on ways to help poor people cope with climate change. Many highlighted the results of three programmes in Vietnam funded by the iBop project, one to supply safe water to Chai village along the Hong (Red) river, one to help poor people in Mekong Delta region adapt to climate change, and one to adapt living spaces to a changing climate.
The first programme has completed its first phase and the quality of water in Chai village is now up to national standard. The second programme is an important experiment in using resources to develop the economy and promote eco-tourism in coastal areas. The third one has helped poor people use science and new technologies to adapt to climate change.
