US welcomes Vietnam's accession to Artemis Accords on space exploration
VOV.VN - The US Department of State issued a press release on October 28 welcoming Vietnam’s accession to the Artemis Accords on space exploration, emphasizing that Hanoi's decision expands the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries into a new domain.
According to the US Department of State, space exploration is entering a new era of discoveries and opportunities, playing an increasingly important role in scientific progress, economic growth, and future-shaping technologies.
As the 78th signatory, Vietnam joins a growing coalition of nations committed to space policies that expand humanity's scope of exploration and innovation through the safe, transparent, and responsible use and exploration of space. As a dedicated partner, Vietnam will contribute to realizing these shared principles for the peaceful and cooperative use of space.
The US side noted that Vietnam’s decision expands the US-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership into a new realm. Built on a foundation of over 30 years of cooperation, the bilateral partnership spans defense, economics, law enforcement, war legacy remediation, and technological cooperation, while promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
The US, along with seven other nations, established the Artemis Accords in 2020 to create a practical set of principles guiding responsible space exploration. The US Department of State and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) lead engagement and implementation of the Accords.
The handover ceremony for the Artemis Accords took place on the morning of October 28 within the framework of Vietnam International Digital Week 2026 in Quang Ninh city. Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan, representing Vietnam, received the document from US Ambassador to Vietnam Jennifer Wicks.
