A five-member US war veterans’ delegation led by Dan Tocker arrived at Phuoc Tuong mountain pass in Phu Loc district of the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on March 20 to identify a mass grave of liberation soldiers who died on duty at the US’ former Tomahawk artillery base.
The delegation was joined by leaders from the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, the Vietnam War Veterans’ Association, the Thua Thien-Hue Military Headquarters and Phu Loc district.
Dan Tocker was the one who directly instructed the burial of liberation soldiers at the base on June 18, 1969. He defined the site after four hours of searching all places he can remember and with documents he carried along with him.
He handed over all related documents to Vietnam’s relevant sectors for future excavation.
Earlier, the US delegation visited Khe Sanh Museum and Ta Co airport in the central province of Quang Tri.
