A US veteran was presented with an insignia "For peace and Friendship among Nations" in recognition of her contributions to boosting the friendly ties between Vietnamese and US people.
"This is a noble award not only for myself but also for all US citizens who are striving for justice of Vietnamese people," Joan Duffy said at a ceremony held by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations and the Vietnam-US Friendship Association.
An activist for peace and justice in the US, Joan Duff has actively assisted Vietnamese Agent Orange (AO) victims in recent years, particularly in mobilising public support for a lawsuit by the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange (VAVA).
Joan Duff, a member of the "Veterans for Peace" organisation based in Santa Fe city of New Mexico, has actively joined the anti-war movements to call for peace since she came back home from Vietnam.
She is suffering from a cancer as a result of being exposed to AO while serving as a military nurse in Vietnam from 1969-1970.
