The Ministry of Health on August 4 sent a document of the project “H5N1 prevention and control for 2006-2007 period” to the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC).

According to Dr Nguyen Van Binh, deputy director of the Preventive Health Department under the Ministry of Health, the US will sponsor US$1 million to the project.

After receiving the document, the CDC will examine the content to allocate distribution.

*** The Preventive Health Department on August 3 announced the test results of 12 samples taken from bird flu-infected farmers in the five provinces of Thai Binh, Ha Tay, Dong Thap, Quang Binh and Tay Ninh. All samples tested negative with H5N1 virus.

*** As a response to the development of the bird flu epidemic in the neighbouring countries of Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and China, the Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has asked relevant ministries, agencies and localities to actively take measures to prevent the disease and provide the latest information to farmers.
