A labour team from the US Department of State held a dialogue with the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) in Hanoi on May 23.
The head of the mission, Mark Mittelhauser, who is deputy director of international labour affairs of the bureau of democracy, human rights and labour, said the visit was aimed at piecing together information on Vietnam’s labour situation.
Mittelhauser said that the mission was eager to research the framework that Vietnamese businesses used when implementing their social responsibilities and whether their right to establish industrial associations.
During the meeting, the US official also praised Vietnam’s efforts in protecting the workers' rights.
The VGCL’s Vice President Nguyen Hoa Binh went on to lay out his department's strategic priorities for the future.
