The Unilever Vietnam Fund has provided VND463.9 million (or nearly US$26,000) to carry out a project to improve community health in four communes in the northern province of Ha Nam.
The project aims to tackle the issues of personal and environmental hygiene in Nguyen Ly and Hoa Hau communes in Ly Nhan district, and Nguyen Uy commune and Que town in Kim Bang district from August to December this year.
The project will assist the construction of hygienic toilets in private houses and public areas, and promote personal and environmental hygiene, particularly the practice of using soap to wash hands, through various activities and the media.
In 2008, the Fund provided VND303.3 million (almost US$17,000) to conduct a similar project in Binh Nghia and Bo De commune in Binh Luc district, and Hoa Hau and Nguyen Ly communes in Ly Nhan district.
This project provided 22,000 bars of soap to local households, helped build 8 clean water projects, and upgraded 26 hygienic toilets.
As a result, there was a 5 percent increase in the number of toilets and the number of households having access to safe water.
