The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) will provide nearly US$2.25 million for a project to help Vietnam increase its supervision and assessment capacity.

The project was included in the list of cooperation programmes between Vietnam and UNICEF in the 2006-2010 period following an approval by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem on January 17.

Deputy PM Khiem has assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to co-ordinate with the Vietnam Commission for Population, Family and Children and related agencies and localities in carrying out the project.

UNICEF have so far provided hundreds of millions of US dollars for seven national cooperation programmes. With an estimated aid of US$84 million for the 2006-2010 period, UNICEF will continue to assist the country in healthcare, nutrition, water supply, sanitation, education, as well as child accident and injury prevention, with an increased focus on ethnic minority children and children in remote areas.
