The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has agreed to grant more than US$3.76 million in non-refundable aid to help the National Committee on Population, Family and Children implement the second phase of the national population strategy from 2006 to 2010.

Under a document signed in Hanoi on July 7, the project will help increase the capacity building for the committee and relevant agencies in formulating management policies and implementing population and reproductive healthcare programmes. It will also help adolescents, young people and migrants get access to reproductive healthcare information and services.

The project will provide technical assistance for key provinces to implement integrated models on population, family planning and gender, contributing to poverty reduction and gender equality.

The project is part of the 2006-2010 UNFPA-Vietnam National Co-operation Programme, with a commitment of US$28 million.

Over the past three decades, UNFPA has granted more than US$140 million for Vietnam's six national co-operation programmes on population.
