At 7 am on December 9, the centre of a new storm named Utor was situated at 10.9 0 N latitude and 12.6 0 E longitude, 170 km east from the Philippines archipelago. The strongest wind force near of the storm was 103-133 km per hour gusting up to over 12 category, according to the Central Hydro- Meteorology Forecasting Centre.

Ultor Typhoon will continue moving west and northwest at a speed of 20 km per hour in the next 24 and 48 hours.

Due to the storm impact, as from the morning of December 10 there will be strong winds and rough seas in the territorial waters of the East Sea.

 

** Typhoon Durian, the 9th of its kind that slammed into Vietnam this year, claimed at least 73 lives and left 16 others missing, according to the December 8 report by the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control.

The southern coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau suffered the heaviest losses, with 52 dead, seven missing and 791 wounded. Nearly 70,000 houses were pulled down or unroofed.


To assist the victims to overcome the consequences, the Prime Minister has decided to allocate VND150 billion from the State budget to localities which were devastated by Typhoon Durian.


Agencies, organisations, individuals and localities across the country have continued sending relief aid to the victims of the typhoon.


The Viet Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) Chapter in Tra Vinh province, where the typhoon swept through, has raised VND1 billion to support disaster-hit localities.

On December 8, the northern Ha Tay province sent  VND150 million as relief aid to the typhoon victims.
